What is an explainer video generator?
An explainer video generator turns a written script into a short video of a person explaining one thing. In Kyndrify you write about 220 words, pick a presenter from our catalog or your own Digital Twin, and render. Cutaway clips and captions are optional. It does not record your screen or import a slide deck.
Who it is for
Founders, product marketers and anyone who keeps being asked "so what does it actually do?" and does not have a shoot day to answer it.
What you need
The script. About 150 words for a minute, about 220 for ninety seconds. On the Free plan a Featured avatar from our catalog says them, one of our ready-made characters with no real person behind it. Your own face and your own voice come with the Plus plan.
What it costs
A paid Digital Twin video bills 152 credits a second, with a floor of 120 credits on any one video, so a ninety second explainer is about 13,680 credits. Plus is $49 a month billed yearly and carries 28,000 credits a month. Free starts with 8,400 credits, once, and the starter credits do not expire.
What it does not do
It does not record your screen, import slides, or animate a diagram. If your explainer has to show the product, record that part yourself and bring the file into the editor.
Not sure who should say it? Every Featured presenter sits in the avatar catalog, and every Featured voice in the voice library.
Write to the length, then cut.
The Studio reads your script at 150 words a minute and shows the length while you type, so you know how long the video runs before you spend anything.
Sixty seconds is about 150 words. Start here on the Free plan, because a free render stops at 60 seconds.
Ninety seconds is about 220 words. This is the one most product explainers want, and it is the length this page is written around.
Two minutes is about 300 words. By then you are explaining two things instead of one, and the second thing usually wants a video of its own.
Pick the number before you write. It is far easier to write to the number than to cut a long draft down to it, and the cut version is always the one people finish.
The five beats, in this order.
Every explainer that works is doing the same five jobs in the same order. Here they are with a word budget each, so you can see the whole thing fit before you write a line of it.
- 1
The problem, in one line.
Name the person and name what hurts. Not the market, the person. About twenty five words.
- 2
The turn.
What is different once they use you. One sentence. Resist the second sentence. About twenty five words.
- 3
How it works, in three steps.
Three, not five. If it takes five, you are explaining the product instead of the outcome. About ninety words.
- 4
One proof.
One concrete thing you can stand behind: a real number, a named customer who said yes to being named, or a thing you do that the others do not. One, not three. About forty words. If the honest answer is that you have no number yet, say the qualitative true thing and move on, because an explainer that invents a statistic is an explainer you take down later.
- 5
The ask.
One action, said out loud, in the words you would use on the phone. About twenty words.
The rest of the ninety seconds.

Cutaways for the parts where nobody needs a face.
Describe the shot you want and get a clip back: four to fifteen seconds, tall or wide. Cutaways bill 114 credits a second on the default setting, so three six second shots come to about 2,052 credits, and they are on the Plus plan and above. Lay them over the narration in the editor, where you can also cut the pauses and put captions on. Captions burn onto the picture, and the export hands you a subtitle file as well. Freeform video, short clips from a description.

When the explainer has to show the product.
A lot of product explainers need thirty seconds of the actual thing on screen, and we do not capture it. Use whatever screen recorder you already have, export the file, and bring it into the editor: it takes mp4, mov, webm, m4v and mkv, up to a gigabyte each. Your presenter opens, your own capture sits in the middle, your presenter closes with the ask. The same goes for slides. There is no deck import, so screenshot the slide and bring the picture in. Tidying a recording you already have.
The same ninety seconds, two ways.
Booking a shoot
- Find a presenter, or be one.
- Book a studio day everyone can make.
- Wait for the edit.
- Find out line four is wrong.
- Pay again to fix line four.
- Start over for the second product.
Writing it here
- Pick a presenter, or be one, in about a minute.
- No day to book.
- Wait for the render.
- Change line four.
- Render again, and pay the credits again.
- Paste the second script.
Three steps, start to finish.
Write the script and paste it in.
The length estimate updates as you type. Read it out loud once before you press anything. Every line you stumble on is a line to rewrite.
Pick who says it.
On the Free plan you pick a Featured avatar from our catalog, one of our ready-made characters with no real person behind it, and the Free plan also includes one Starter Twin of your own. A Digital Twin that renders full length videos, built from a photo and a short recording with your consent on file, comes with the Plus plan.
Render it.
A free render carries a small visible mark and runs to 60 seconds. From the Plus plan it comes out at 1080p with no mark, and one video can run to thirty minutes. A render is one pass, so a wrong line means changing that line and rendering again, which costs the credits again.
What a ninety second explainer costs to make.
The worked cut: a presenter reading the whole script, three short cutaways over the middle of it, and one export of the finished timeline.
The presenter saying your script. 152 credits a second on the default paid setting, with a floor of 120 credits on any one video. Ninety seconds is about 13,680 credits.
Three six second cutaways. 114 credits a second, on the Plus plan and above. About 2,052 credits.
Exporting the cut timeline. 20 credits a second, with a floor of 60 credits. About 1,800 credits.
The finished explainer. About 17,532 credits.
The Plus plan carries 28,000 credits a month at $49 billed yearly, so a fully cut explainer fits inside one month with room for a second short one.
If you want to see one first, the Free plan starts with 8,400 credits, once, and the starter credits do not expire. A free render runs up to one minute, which is enough for the 150 word version with a Featured avatar.
Not sure what the five beats should say?
Kae is our creative director. Tell her what the explainer is for and who it is for, and she writes the beats, suggests the shots, and prices the whole thing before anything runs.
You approve the plan or you change it, and nothing renders until you say so. The Free plan includes five planning sessions a month.
What we do not do here.
We do not record your screen.
There is no capture inside Kyndrify, and nothing posts or schedules the finished file either. Record the screen with whatever you already use, export it, and bring the file into the editor.
There is no deck or document import.
Nothing reads a slide deck, a PDF or a link and turns it into a video. You write or paste a script, or you plan one with Kae.
We do not animate a diagram.
Kyndrify renders a person speaking, and short clips from a description. It is not a motion graphics tool and it will not draw your architecture diagram.
A free render stops at one minute.
A free render runs to 60 seconds, so a ninety second explainer needs a paid plan or a shorter cut. The 150 word version fits inside the free one.
Cutaway clips are a paid feature.
Describing a shot and getting a clip back is on the Plus plan and above. A presenter reading your script is open on the Free plan.
What people ask about explainers.
- How long should an explainer video be?
- Ninety seconds for most products, which is about 220 words. Sixty seconds, about 150 words, if what you sell is simple or the video sits above the fold on a landing page. Past two minutes you are explaining two things, and the second one usually wants its own video. The Studio shows you the length while you type, at 150 words a minute.
- Do I have to be on camera?
- No. On the Free plan you pick a Featured avatar from our catalog and it says your words. If you would rather it were you, build a Digital Twin from a photo and a short recording, with your consent on file and a face check that says it is you. The Free plan includes one Starter Twin, and full length videos in your own twin start on the Plus plan. Either way you never sit for a shoot.
- Can it show my product on screen?
- Not by itself. We do not record your screen and we do not import a deck. Record the screen with whatever you already use, export the file, and bring it into the editor, which takes mp4, mov, webm, m4v and mkv up to a gigabyte each. Your presenter opens and closes, your own capture sits in the middle.
- What does a ninety second explainer cost?
- The presenter reading your script bills 152 credits a second on the default paid setting, so about 13,680 credits. Add three six second cutaways and one export and the cut explainer is about 17,532 credits. Plus is $49 a month billed yearly with 28,000 credits a month. Free starts with 8,400 credits, once.
- Can I make the same explainer in another language?
- Yes, for a video you made here. Once the explainer is rendered you can dub it into any of our ten languages, in the same voice, on the Plus plan and above. Uploading a video made somewhere else and dubbing that is not something we do.
- Do I have to say the video was made with AI?
- That depends on where you are and who you are talking to, and it is worth a minute with your own lawyer if you are publishing at scale. On our side, built-in labelling is still rolling out across output types, so write the disclosure line yourself rather than assuming the file carries it. A video made on the free plan carries a small visible mark, and a Digital Twin of a real person only renders while that person's consent is on file.
